A jury has convicted a Greene County woman for killing the mother of her grandchildren in 2016, WCYB reports.
Vonda Star Smith received a life sentence for the first-degree murder of 21-year-old Jessica Nicole Morrison, whose body was recovered in August 2016 in a ditch off Jud Neal Loop in Afton.
Smith was also found guilty in the second-degree murder of Morrison's unborn child. She will be sentenced on that charge June 25, according to court information, according to WCYB.
Morrison died from blunt force trauma to the head, according to an autopsy report. Smith is the grandmother to one of Morrison's two children from previous relationships, according to Sheriff Pat Hankins.
A grand jury indicted her in 2017.
