Gang member receives life sentence for 2013 Knoxville murder

Williams was sentenced to life in prison for the murder count, and must serve 51 years before he's considered for parole.

A known gang member has been sentenced to life in prison after he was found guilty of first-degree murder for the 2013 shooting death of a Knoxville man.

Authorities say Quantavious Williams traveled to Knoxville from Chattanooga with the "Rollin 20s Crip" street gang to commit random robberies. While in Knoxville, Williams and two other gang members gunned down a man, Jack Hutchins, as he was carrying food into his Woodbine Avenue home and gunned him down.

A jury found Williams guilty first-degree murder, especially aggravated robbery, especially aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery, carjacking and employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony after a five-day trial.

Williams was sentenced to life in prison for the murder count, and must serve 51 years before he's considered for parole.

He will be sentenced on the remaining counts on Dec. 14.

“This senseless crime was committed as part of a gang’s plan to commit random robberies,” said Knox County District Attorney General Charme Allen said in a statement. “The lengthy sentences imposed in this case should serve as a warning to those who victimize members of our community in the name of a gang. Also, this trial would not have been possible without the brave citizens who came forward to testify.”
