A third Knox County bus driver has pleaded guilty to attempting to use a mobile phone while driving a bus.

36-year-old Marvin Lee Hawkins pleaded guilty Thursday to a reduced charge after being accused of using a device while on the job.

He faces a six-month probationary term after his charge was reduced to a misdemeanor and must take a driver safety course. Hawkins is on probation for the offense and will not be facing jail time.

He's one of four people that were recently charged with use of a mobile device by a bus driver, which is a relatively new crime in the state of Tennessee that emerged after the Dec. 2014 deaths of two Sunnyview Primary School children and a teacher's aide when two school buses collided.

Two others pleaded guilty to lesser charges like Hawkins in September: Kellie Rudd and Margaret Flory. They similarly face a six-month probationary term and must take a driver safety course.

One other, 69-year-old Robert Newman, is still awaiting prosecution for his charge. He's scheduled to head to Knox County court on Nov. 8.

All four were taken off the school system's approved driver list after complaints were filed, according to Knox County Schools spokeswoman Carly Harrington
