Campbell County man charged after gunfire exchange with officers

The TBI said a man was taken into custody after officers and the suspect exchanged gunfire with Campbell County deputies Wednesday evening.

A Campbell County man is in custody after an officer-involved shooting in Pioneer Wednesday evening.

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation special agents charged 56-year-old Wayne Arnold Moore with two counts of attempted second degree murder after they said he shot at Campbell County deputies.

The TBI said Moore was driving a four-wheeler and shooting vehicles along Elk Main Street when deputies responded. According to the investigation, Moore shot at the deputies when they approached and one deputy fired back.

No one was struck in the exchange. A Campbell County SWAT team responded after Moore ran and barricaded himself inside an abandoned home. After four hours of negotiations, the TBI said Moore came out of the house and was taken into custody.

Moore is being held in the Campbell County Jail. The TBI said additional charges are pending.
