Sweet message behind Knoxville boy's lemonade stand

A little boy with a big heart has a sweet idea for how to celebrate his seventh birthday.

Knoxville — Ethan Jacob knows exactly what to do when life gives you lemons.

"You make lemonade," Jacob says, pointing to the iconic phrase printed on his T-shirt.

When life gives those lemons to someone else, you open a lemonade stand, if you ask the newly-turned 7-year-old.

"I just thought it would help the kids so they don't have to deal with all the surgery and stuff. They could have a cure with all the money," Jacob said about his idea for the stand.

He was inspired to raise money for the Foundation of Childhood Cancer after reading "Alex and the Amazing Lemonade Stand," a children's book about a girl with terminal cancer who raises money for research by opening a lemonade stand.

Jacob hopes to do the same thing with his stand when he opens it on Saturday outside his home in West Knoxville. He says everything is priced at 50 cents, and he wants to raise $400 to fund a day of cancer research.

"They might find a cure because it's one whole entire day," Jacob said.

Jacob may not know anyone with cancer, but he knows it's a terrible disease and says he wants to do what he can to help people sweeten the lemons life deals them.
