The Lady Vols host Texas A&M on Thursday at Thompson-Boling Arena at 6:30 p.m. The game will also be televised on the SEC Network.
The Knoxville Museum of Arts presents a new exhibit called “Press Ahead: Contemporary Prints Gifted by Helen and Russell Novak,” which features the largest group of prints ever donated to the museum. A free opening night reception takes place on Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., and the show runs until April 15.
Friday, Feb. 2
It's the first Friday in February which means there will be live music, art displays and other events around the city.
The theater department at Grace Christian Academy is performing Beauty and the Beast on Friday with performances at 12:30 and 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children at the door, or you can buy them online at https://gcacamps.wufoo.com/forms/z1p19b6z1glonxf/ for a dollar more. The department is raising money for a Florida school (Southwest Florida Christian Academy) that was damaged in Hurricane Irma.
Friday is opening night for a new exhibit at the Emporium Center at 100 South Gay Street called "Constellations of Drawings." The show features the abstract work of John Humphries and runs Feb. 2- 23, 2018. There will be an opening night reception on Friday from 5 to 9 p.m.
There are still a few days left of Remote Area Medical’s five-day free clinic at Chilhowee Park’s Jacob Building at 3301 East Magnolia Avenue. All the services are free, and ticket distribution for each day begins at 3 a.m. The clinic, which includes dental, vision and medical care ends on Sunday.
Help support the Knox County Office of Aging’s “Knox PAWS” program, where senior citizens are matched up with a senior pet who needs adoption, by dropping pet food off at several local businesses this weekend for the annual “Super Kibble Bowl.”
Friday is opening night for “Alabama Story,” a play set in Montgomery, Alabama, during years of the Civil Rights Movement. The production, at the Clarence Brown Theatre at UT, runs until Feb. 18.
The Roane County Anti-Drug Coalition is showing “Chasing the Dragon: The Life of an Opiate Addict” on Friday at 6 p.m. in the O’Brien Theater at Roane State Community College. The educational movie was released by the FBI and the DEA to help fight a growing opioid epidemic. A forum will follow the movie where the community is encouraged to ask questions. The event is free.
The wine will be flowing at the 9th annual “Beat the Winter Blues” wine and cheese reception to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House. Guests will be greeted at the door by hundreds of beautiful fresh flowers, candles and a harpist while they shop at vendor tables. Tickets are $40 per person.
“Waynestock: For the Love of Drew” returns to Knoxville Feb. 2-3 at the Relix Theatre. It will feature 11 local artists and a tribute to the late Tom Petty. Admission is $5 each night. The event benefits the community-supported radio station WDVX.

February is the month of love, so Ijams Nature Center is hosting “Wild Couples” to give people a look at romance in the animal kingdom. At Saturday’s event from 11 a.m. to noon, participants will learn about animal courtship rituals and how they raise their young. Tickets are $5 per person.
Step back in time to a style of country music that proceeds legends like Hank Williams and Bill Monroe when the “Georgia Crackers” take the stage at the Laurel Theater on Saturday at 8 p.m. The Georgia Crackers recreate the vintage sound of the 1920s in their music. Tickets are $15 at the door and $13 in advance.
Pellissippi State Community College is offering a free Handgun Safety course on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to noon. State handgun certified officers will teach basic safety and how to choose the best gun to fit your needs. Registration is required at www.pstcc.edu/bcs.
The Monroe County Boxing Club is hosting an amateur boxing tournament on Saturday at 6 p.m. at 234 Warren Street, Madisonville. Tickets range from $5 to $10.
Come enjoy live music, food and dancing at the Senior Companion Snowflake Ball and silent auction on Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Kerbela Temple at 315 Mimosa Avenue. Big South Fork National River and Recreation area is kicking off its year-long “GO BIG 2018 challenge” with a hike along Middle Creek nature Loop trail on Saturday at 10 a.m. A park ranger will be leading the 3.5 mile hike, and participants will earn points for the “GO BIG 2018 challenge” by answering nature questions along the trail.
Pull out your coziest pajamas for the Onesie Bar Crawl on Saturday from 2 to 10 p.m. in Downtown Knoxville. Participants will go to five different bars starting with SkyBox Sports Bar on Gay Street. The cost is $25 and includes a t-shirt.
The Knoxville Ice Bears hope the force is with them for their Star Wars themed home game on Saturday against the Rail Yard Dawgs. The game starts at 7:35 p.m. at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum. Costumes are encouraged.
